Okay everyone, this is just a feeler post to see if there's any interest.
For the past four years, myself and some online friends have been participating in
Blogathon. The premise is that you stay awake for 24 hours, blogging every half hour, to raise money for a charity. In the weeks leading up to the 'thon, people sponsor you by pledging however much money they wish. (Think of it like a walk-a-thon, only with a lump sum instead of "per mile", so to speak). It's a LOT of fun, especially if you make it the full 24 hours!
Anyway, Tess and I were pondering doing it this year at jsdaily.net, but sadly, Blogathon is not happening this year. :( Luckily, there is an LJ community,
blogathon_2008 that is organizing a LiveJournal-specific 'thon this year. Same concept -- we'll get sponsors to pledge us, stay up 24 hours posting on
jsdaily, and at the end of the day, collect donations from everyone who's pledged and make our contribution to a charity of our choice. Blogathon 2008 is
July 26/27, 9AM-9AM EST.
If there's any interest here, I think a great charity would be something to do with Alzheimer's awareness, since Jean is an active advocate and supporter as well.
So, again, since this is just to gauge interest:
- Who would be interested in blogging? If we have enough people, we don't all have to stay up 24 hours -- we can blog in shifts, you can just blog a few times, etc etc.
- Who would be interested in pledging/sponsoring us?
- Who would be interested in cheering us on the day of the 'thon?
And yes, you can do all three -- I know I will be! ;)
As for what we'll be doing to stay awake for 24 hours... I was thinking recapping SW?, 24, or just posting picspam every half hour. ;)
